Enrolment options

This unit is targeted at learners proceeding from a Level 1 vocational programme (therefore taking into account completion of Level 1 Key Skills English) as well as those whose entry level is directly at Level 2. No entry qualifications are necessary for learners undertaking this unit.

Key Skills English for Foundation takes into account the learning of English in terms of knowledge, skills and competences.

At Level 2, learners are expected to have a basic knowledge of both spoken and written English in order to deal with everyday situations in scenarios ranging from home, work, social and public settings. General emphasis is laid on work and public settings. In their application of this knowledge, learners are required to listen to or read informative text in the nature of short articles, product labels, signs, notices etc. General understanding of main points or gist is expected. Learners should also be capable of limited verbal communication in English. Continuous writing is level-appropriate, and learners are not expected to produce extensive writing other than notes, messages and basic correspondence which still meet the demands of correct grammar and syntax.

This unit is internally assessed and spread over 102 taught hours over one academic year. Three hours of Key Skills English for Foundation are allocated weekly. While this unit is continuously assessed by means of guided tasks in class and off class, a total of three formal assignments have been allocated for all Institutes and spread over both semesters.
