Lean has established itself as the most effective and widely adopted improvement methodology for operations in the world. With roots in the automotive production systems, lean has expanded vertically into accounting, marketing, HR, IT, design and R&D, and logistics; and horizontally into service, health, government, and banking, etc. Lean is now integrated with other effective approaches including Systems Thinking and Six Sigma. In the programme learners will be expected to acquire the necessary competencies and skills to be able to: develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge required of managers, supervisors, team leaders and technical professionals.

Lean Management today represents a profound change in the competitive business culture and is a leading indicator of excellence in an organisation. Global competitive pressure makes it imperative for an enterprise to adapt in business practices. This Masters in Lean Enterprise presents a set of core lean management principles, tools and techniques that are relevant to most manufacturing and service business models. The course is tailored to help the learner implement lean manufacturing and business practices in the business environment to improve productivity, business resilience and to reduce waste.

Students of this programme should develop a broad understanding of the lean manufacturing philosophy and lean manufacturing techniques and be able to implement them in a business context.  They will be able to: apply lean/Six Sigma initiatives in manufacturing operations; identify factors that contribute to organisational wastes; examine ways to eliminate waste; develop and implement improved organisational processes in order to make a positive impact to the company’s effectiveness and efficiency.
