Programme Overview - MCAST Master of Science in Mechatronics
CODE: UC7-E12-18
Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary programme, which
covers electronics, mechanics and information technology. Mechatronics and smart system experiments can fuel the imagination of
learners and provide an opportunity to reinforce and enhance their disciplinary
skills. Nowadays, mechatronics is applied in different types of industries,
such as telecommunication, networking, medical, industrial and appliance; also,
there are many mechatronics applications in advanced manufacturing. After
completing this programme learners will be able to work on different
applications of mechatronics in industry. Some examples include, machine
vision, automation and robotics, servo-mechanics, sensing and control systems,
automotive engineering, automotive equipment in the design of subsystems such
as anti-lock braking systems, computer-machine controls, such as computer
driven machines like CNC milling machines, CNC waterjets, and CNC plasma
cutters, expert systems, industrial goods, consumer products, medical
mechatronics, medical imaging systems, structural dynamic systems,
transportation and vehicular systems, mechatronics as the new language of the
automobile, computer aided and integrated manufacturing systems, computer-aided
design, engineering and manufacturing systems, packaging, and microcontrollers
/ PLCs.
Programme Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this Master’s Programme, the learner will be able to:
- Recognise the purpose, functioning and need for mechatronic systems in modern industry and everyday life as true interdisciplinary systems;
- Evaluate and analyse various mechanisms, sensors, actuators and controllers as components of a mechatronic system;
- Model and design mechatronic systems based on customer requirements and good practice examples;
- Design a stand-alone mechatronic system based on use-cases specifications;
- Integrate a mechatronic system as an intelligent upgrade of an already functioning system in industry;
- Carry out development projects independently and in teams;
- Recommend enhancements, techniques and materials for the improvement of existing or the development of new mechatronic systems.
- Implement mechatronic theory in design, control and programming of industrial robot, as a complex mechatronic system.
- Apply 3D technologies in design of mechatronic system.
